Lesson plan overview
This ESL lesson plan explores the topic of AI influencers and their role in social media marketing. This lesson is great for educators looking for video-based ESL lessons on trending topics like AI, social media, and marketing. Students will discuss influencer marketing, AI, unrealistic beauty standards, social media, and ethical questions related to using generative AI to promote products. Vocabulary: Next, students look at a few statements, each containing key vocabulary for this lesson (amass a following, touch-ups, endorsement, unrealistic, curated, body image, marketed, disclose, sponsored). Students match the words to their synonyms and then discuss the statements. To practice, they complete 8 short dialogues with the correct word or expression.
Listening: Students watch a video called “Rise of AI influencers raising ethical concerns” and answer 7 conversation questions. Then they engage in a post-listening discussion.
Speaking: Students debate the pros and cons of AI influencers vs. real influencers from a company perspective, focusing on factors like:
- Cost-effectiveness
- Brand image
- Consumer trust
A role-play activity follows, where students simulate a meeting between a marketing agency and a potential client, providing practical communication practice.
Vocabulary review: Students reinforce their knowledge by completing sentences with the correct form of the given words, ensuring they retain the key marketing and advertising vocabulary.
Use the conversation cards to extend discussions and encourage fluency.
