Phrasal verbs: social media
Worksheet overview
This ESL worksheet deals with phrasal verbs related to social media. Students will learn and practise 14 phrasal verbs. You might also like the worksheets “Phrasal verbs: technology”, and “Idioms: technology”.
First, students read a short dialogue, which includes the first 6 phrasal verbs (e.g. blow up, check out, tune in, look someone up). After matching the verbs to their definitions, students complete a gap-fill activity. Next, they discuss 6 questions, and use the phrasal verbs.
Next, students read 7 short dialogues and match the rest of the phrasal verbs (e.g. reach out, log out, follow back, lock out of, take down) to their definitions.
After that they complete a few tips for safe social media use with the correct verbs, and discuss the tips, as well as their own tips.
Next, they look at different situations and discuss how they are going to handle them (e.g. “Your account got hacked”), using the phrasal verbs given.
For some more practice of all phrasal verbs, students complete a multiple-choice activity.
Finally, they are given statements and are asked to debate them or express their opinions about them.
For more speaking practice, and to review these phrasal verbs related to social media, you can use the conversation cards.
