Teamwork

Lesson plan overview

This A2-B1 Business English lesson plan is about teamwork. Students will learn important collocations about teamwork, will learn expressions to ask for help, will practise using the verb should and will discuss the importance of teamwork and how to improve teamwork. You can combine this lesson with other video-based Business English lesson plans aimed at A2-B1 students, such as  “Hard skills vs Soft skills”, and “Competition“.For higher level students, you can try the worksheet “Phrasal verbs: Teamwork”.
Speaking: The lesson starts with a few discussion questions about teamwork. Next, students look at different professions and discuss which ones require more teamwork and give examples of specific tasks that require working in a team.
Vocabulary: Students complete a quiz on the topic “Are you a team player”, which includes important expressions (carry out a task, share ideas, set goals, foster a collaborative work environment). After the quiz, students complete 11 phrases given with the correct verb (some of the phrases are included in the quiz). To practise, students complete 6 sentences with the correct verb.
Grammar: Students look at a short explanation of the use of the verb should and then brainstorm things that are necessary for effective teamwork, using the verbs should and shouldn’t.
Listening: Students watch a video “5 tips for effective teamwork” and complete the notes with the correct words.
Functional language: Students learn expressions used to ask for help, to agree to help or to politely say no (e.g. Can you give me a hand?, Could you assist me with…?). To practise, students role-play 5 situations.
