Business relationships
Lesson plan overview
This intermediate ESL lesson is dedicated to the topic of business relationships. Students will learn useful vocabulary to talk about stakeholders, collocations related to business relationships, and will watch 2 interesting videos. You might also like the lessons: “Seasonality in business“, “Business models“, “The art of listening“, and “The importance of company culture“.
Vocabulary and speaking: After an initial discussion, students learn about the different types of stakeholders (e.g. customers, shareholders, suppliers, media, etc.) After that they discuss 7 conversation questions given.Next, they look at different challenges and discuss which stakeholder is each challenge related to, as well as whether they have experienced this challenge in the past.
Vocabulary: Next, students learn a few collocations, which they will hear when watching the videos (e.g.acquire/upsell a customer, bring in business, build rapport/trust, nurture a relationship). To practise, they complete 5 sentences with their own ideas.
Videos: Students watch 2 videos: “Building relationships is so good for business”, and “Why savvy business people build relationship capital” and complete 2 listening comprehension activities. After that they engage in a post-listening discussion.
Finally, they look at a few tips for building business relationships and answer a few questions related to the tips.
