Women’s EURO 2025

Lesson plan overview

This B1 ESL worksheet for teens and adults centres around the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, helping students practise reading, listening, vocabulary, and speaking skills through the lens of a current and inspiring sports event. It features interactive tasks that explore women in sports. Other lessons you might like are “Phrasal verbs: role models“, “Phrasal verbs: sport“, “Idioms: sports performance“, “How are sports chosen for the Olympics“.

Speaking: The lesson begins with engaging discussion questions about women’s football, its global rise in popularity, and students’ personal experiences or opinions on gender in sport. Learners also discuss the significance of visibility, sponsorship, and role models for future generations.

Reading: Students read an article titled “How Women’s Football Is Changing the Game”, covering the historical development of women’s football, current challenges, and recent successes. Comprehension tasks encourage critical thinking and vocabulary development.

Vocabulary: Learners match key expressions from the reading and listening activities (e.g. “to raise money,” “role model,” “prize pot,” “defending champions”) with definitions, then apply them in gap-fill and speaking tasks.

Listening: Using the video “Women’s Euro 2025 – What You Need to Know”, students complete comprehension tasks that include real numbers, predictions, and key facts about the tournament. The listening section focuses on event planning, sponsorship, and global fan engagement.

This resource is ideal for learners who want to improve their English while engaging with the real-world topic of Women’s EURO 2025, promoting language fluency, awareness of current events, and meaningful discussion on equality in sport.
