The importance of company culture
Lesson plan overview
This ESl lesson plan is dedicated to a topic that every professional can relate to: company culture. Students will learn relevant vocabulary to discuss the topic, read a short article and watch an interesting video on creating successful company culture. This lesson will surely get your students talking and spark a discussion. You can combine it with the lessons: “Labor unions“, “Business relationships“, and “How to get promoted”
The lesson starts with a vocabulary and speaking activity, which also introduces words and expressions from the video (e.g. get ahead, quid pro quo, adding value) Students read 4 statements about work and match the words with their definitions. Then they discuss to what extent they identify themselves with the statements.
After that students look at 4 quotes about company culture and talk about their meaning.
Reading: Students read a short article about different types of company culture and complete 2 activities related to the article. Then they discuss their opinion about the information given in the article.
Listening: Students watch a video “What makes people thrive? The psychology of success” , which is divided into 3 parts. Students complete matching, note-taking and gap-fill activities, mixed with
Vocabulary: Students work on a few phrasal verbs from the video (screen out, weed out, bring in, step up).
Speaking: Students engage in a free discussion, using the conversation questions given as conversation starters.
Homework: 3 research topic ideas are given which students can use to enrich their knowledge on the topic, as well as links to additional videos and articles on theenglishflows.com
