Outsourcing
Lesson plan overview
This ESL lesson plan is about outsourcing. Students will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing and will learn the grammar structure “have/get something done”. You may also like the lessons “Productivity and AI tools” and “Phrasal verbs: efficiency”.
Vocabulary and speaking: The lesson starts with 4 examples of outsourcing. After reading them, students should come up with their definition of outsourcing and find synonyms of the verb “to outsource” in the short texts. Then, they discuss a few questions related to outsourcing. Next, they are given the definitions of outsourcing vs offshoring, and 3 questions more.
Listening: Students watch a video called “Commonly outsourced business functions”, and complete 2 listening comprehension activities.
Grammar: “Have/get something done”. Students are given a short overview of this structure and the most common contexts it is used in. To practice, they are asked to rewrite 8 sentences, using have/get something done. Finally, they are given 11 discussion questions which will encourage them to practice using this structure.
