Phrasal verbs: marketing and advertising
Worksheet overview
This Business English worksheet is about 12 phrasal verbs used in marketing and advertising. Students learn and practise the most common phrasal verbs used in marketing and advertising and practise them by creating an advertising campaign and a product pitch.
The first 8 phrasal verbs (e.g. break into a market, roll out, put together a plan, play up the features of a product) are introduced through a short dialogue. Students work out the meanings of the verbs and match them to their definitions. Next, students practise some of the already-seen phrasal verbs by completing a dialogue with the correct phrasal verb. This dialogue also introduces the rest of the phrasal verbs (bring in more customers, reach out, sales pick up). After that students choose the correct phrasal verb to complete 4 sentences.
As an additional activity, students paraphrase 4 sentences, using the correct phrasal verb.
There are 3 speaking tasks in this worksheet: First, students discuss 3 conversation questions. Then they work in pairs or small groups and come up with an advertising campaign, which they will later present to the class. Finally (this could also be a homework task). Students prepare a product pitch about a product they know well. Use the printable conversation cards to practise and revise these phrasal verbs even further! This worksheet can be combined with lessons about marketing, advertising, and other Business English topics.
