The stadiums of Euro 2024
Lesson plan overview
This A2-B1 ESL lesson is dedicated to football stadiums, and the stadiums of UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany. Students will learn useful vocabulary, will watch a short video, and will discuss Euro 2024. You can find more football-related lessons here.
The lesson starts with a few conversation questions about stadiums. Then, students compare different ways to see a football match (e.g. at home, in a bar, at the stadium, a public viewing).
Vocabulary: Students learn basic vocabulary about stadiums (e.g. pitch, stands, concession stands, box seats, hospitality, gate, ticket office). They match the words to their definitions, and complete 10 sentences with the correct word. After that they discuss a few conversation questions to activate the vocabulary. Next, students read a short text about the stages of a European Championship, and complete the text with the correct word (group stage, knockout rounds, Round of 16, etc.).
Speaking: Students discuss conversation questions about Euro 2024.
Listening: Students watch a video called “Euro 2024 stadium guide”, and complete 2 comprehension activities. After that they discuss a few more questions.
Finally, students are asked to write a short text describing their local stadium.
For more speaking practice, you can check out the conversation cards.
