Ukrainian Easter Eggs: The Art of Pysanky

In this A2–B1 ESL lesson on Easter traditions and the art of Ukrainian pysanky, students explore the cultural significance of decorated eggs and learn about traditional and modern techniques. Listening – Pysanky Video: Students watch a video called “Pysanky are colorful, intricately decorated Ukrainian Easter Eggs” and complete true/false, sequencing, and gap-fill activities. Then they engage in a post-listening discussion.

Reading – Global Easter Traditions: Learners read a text about how eggs are decorated and used in different countries. They answer comprehension questions and explore techniques like natural dyeing, etching, and chocolate egg traditions.

Speaking – Personalised Discussion: Students discuss crafts, traditions, and personal experiences, including activities and cultural practices passed down through generations. This encourages meaningful communication and critical thinking. They use sequencing to describe an art or craft that they enjoy.
