Football is more popular than cricket, rugby, baseball, and others because it’s easy to understand even for the newest spectators.
Spectators don’t need to be told the purpose of the movements by each player; you know why they’re all running or marking one another.
Regardless of who eventually does the finishing, the win is for the 11 and those on the bench, including the coaching crew, and the loss is collective for the losing side.
You will hardly find another game that enjoys wider television coverage than football.
