Phrasal verbs: rest and relaxation
Worksheet overview
This ESL worksheet deals with phrasal verbs related to rest and relaxation. Students will learn 12 phrasal verbs and will have many opportunities for speaking practice throughout the lesson.
The lesson starts with a dialogue between 2 friends talking about their last weekend. Students see 7 phrasal verbs (e.g. lounge around, hang out, switch off, sleep in) and match them to their definitions. Then, students complete 4 sentences with their own ideas.
The rest of the phrasal verbs (e.g. mellow out, while away, loosen up) are introduced by matching similar sentences, which helps students work out the meaning of the phrasal verbs.
Next, students create 8 short dialogues by matching the lines that work well together, and are asked to choose 1 dialogue and continue it with 4-5 more lines.
The rest of the activities are focused on speaking: First, students take a look at different activities that help people relax and discuss which ones they find relaxing. After that students complete 7 questions with the correct preposition, and discuss the questions. Finally, students are asked to choose 1 out of 3 situations to create a dialogue, using phrasal verbs from this lesson.
