Phrasal verbs: negotiations

Worksheet overview

This Business English worksheet is about 13 phrasal verbs used in negotiations. It would be especially useful to business professionals who need to negotiate with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Students learn and practise the most common phrasal verbs used when negotiating and use the role-play scenarios to practise them The first 7 phrasal verbs (e.g. back down, stand by, give in, settle for) are introduced through a short text. Students work out the meanings of the verbs and match them to their definitions. Then they complete 4 questions and discuss them in pairs or small groups. Next, the rest of the phrasal verbs (make up for, walk away from, look into, bring down) are introduced through a short dialogue. After that students complete a short negotiation dialogue with 6 of the phrasal verbs. Finally, students are given 5 role-play scenarios and are asked to use the phrasal verbs from this lesson as much as possible when simulating the situations. Use the printable conversation cards to practise and revise these phrasal verbs even further! This worksheet can be combined with lessons about negotiating, deals, and other Business English topics.
