Phrasal verbs: autumn
Worksheet overview
With this ESL worksheet, students will learn and practise phrasal verbs used in autumn. Students will discuss their favourite autumn activities, as well as some autumn problems.
The first 8 phrasal verbs (e.g. stroll through, (the weather) holds up, layer up, cosy up, (the leaves) swirl around) are introduced through a short dialogue. Students match the verbs to their definitions. To practise, they are given 6 photos, and are asked to write 6 sentences, using a suitable phrasal verb. Then they discuss a few conversation questions.
Next, the rest of the phrasal verbs about autumn (e.g. warm up, turn the clocks back, pack away, pile up) are introduced through 4 short dialogues. To practise, students complete a gap-fill activity.
Next, they discuss common problems in autumn, and how to deal with them, using some of the verbs from this lesson.
Finally, they are asked to create a dialogue, regarding an autumn activity, incorporating at least 5 phrasal verbs.
