Worksheet overview

This ESL worksheet explores the idioms used when talking about agreements, deals and negotiations. Students learn and practise 12 different idiomatic expressions. This worksheet works great with business English lesson plans related to negotiating and agreements.
In the first multiple-choice exercise, students work out the meaning of 5 idioms from the sentences given (e.g. in black and white, a deal-breaker, to seal the deal). To practise, students are asked to complete a few statements and use them as conversation starters.
Students learn more expressions (e.g. common ground, meet halfway, a shady deal) by analyzing and matching sentences with similar meanings and then have a conversation using the prompts given.
The worksheet also includes a quiz and a few situations which students use to create dialogues.
This ESL worksheet, in combination with the conversation cards, is a great way to introduce and encourage your students to use idioms when negotiating and trying to reach an agreement.
The conversation cards provide an excellent opportunity to revise these idioms in different lessons, as a warmer or end of class activity.
