Worksheet overview
This worksheet includes 12 phrasal verbs that can be useful for students to use in job interviews. It can be used separately or as an addition to a broader lesson about job interviews, finding a job, HR and work-related topics in general. You can also check out this lesson: “Phrasal verbs: Human Resources“.
The first activity introduces 5 phrasal verbs (e.g. go over, deal with, take on) with different sentences. Students are asked to deduce the meaning of the phrasal verbs from context and then match them to their definition. After that students practise by completing different statements with the phrasal verbs and discussing the statements in pairs or small groups. In the next activity students decide whether the interviewer or the candidate say the phrases given. A few more phrasal verbs are introduced (e.g.knuckle down, keep up with, speak up). Then students practise answering the interview questions from the exercise. The worksheet also includes a multiple-choice quiz to test students’ understanding. It concludes with a speaking activity. The worksheet, combined with the conversation cards provides plenty of opportunities to practise the phrasal verbs. The conversation cards can be used as a warmer or at the end of a class dedicated to a work-related topic to revise and reinforce this vocabulary.
