Phrasal verbs: around the house
Worksheet overview
This ESL worksheet helps learners master 15 phrasal verbs commonly used for household chores and everyday cleaning tasks. Through realistic dialogues, sentence transformation exercises, guided discussions, and vocabulary practice, students gain fluency and confidence using these expressions in daily life.
The first 9 phrasal verbs (e.g., tidy up, pick up, put away, dust off, wash up, take out, throw away, hang up) are introduced through a short dialogue and matched to their definitions. Students then complete a practice activity, choosing the correct phrasal verb to describe what is happening in 8 photos. Next, students read another dialogue which serves both as an additional practice activity, and to introduce he rest of the phrasal verbs (e.g., move in, put together, take apart, lock up). They then complete sentence transformation exercises, ensuring they can use these verbs naturally in different contexts.
In a guided discussion, students reflect on chore preferences, daily routines, and teamwork in the home. A final activity encourages a realistic role-play scenario, where learners divide household responsibilities and use at least five phrasal verbs from the lesson.
For more speaking practice, printable conversation prompts are included to support pair work and interactive dialogue.
This worksheet is ideal for intermediate to upper-intermediate ESL learners looking to build practical vocabulary related to household chores, cleaning, and daily routines.
