This ESL worksheet is dedicated to phrasal verbs used when talking about motivation, encouragement, as well as demotivation. Students learn and practise 12 phrasal verbs. The worksheet could be used both as a General and Business English worksheet.
The first 6 phrasal verbs (bring out, root for, give up, put someone off,put someone down, wear someone down) are introduced through a short interview with a motivational coach. Students match the verbs to their definitions. To practise, they complete a gap-fill activity, and then discuss 6 conversation questions.
Next, the rest of the phrasal verbs (drum up, cheer someone on, slack off, fire up, egg on) are introduced through 6 short dialogues. Students discuss a few questions given. Then, they complete a multiple-choice activity. Finally, they debate a few statements related to motivation, using phrasal verbs from this lesson.
