Phrasal verbs: risk management
Worksheet overview
This Business English worksheet deals with phrasal verbs used when talking about risk management. Students will learn and practise 12 phrasal verbs and talk about mitigating risks.
The first group of phrasal verbs (e.g weigh up, factor in, rely on, guard against, watch out for) are introduced through a short dialogue between 2 colleagues. Students work out the meanings of the phrasal verbs from context and match them to their definitions. To practice, they complete a multiple-choice exercise, and then they complete 4 sentences with their own ideas.
The rest of the phrasal verbs (e.g. hedge against, back up, stay away from, play down) are introduced through 6 very short dialogues. After matching the verbs to their definitions, students complete 5 questions with the correct phrasal verb.
Finally, they discuss how they are going to deal with 6 situations given, and use the appropriate phrasal verbs in each situation.
For more speaking practice, and to review these risk management phrasal verbs. You can use the conversation cards.
